Ellen Hockley Harrison, founder of Greater Good Events, has over ten years of experience working in hospitality and events. She has been directly involved with a wide array of events from food service and catering to direct event management. Prior to founding Greater Good Events, Ellen worked with catering companies staffing and managing events worldwide, gaining an international perspective of operations, management and event execution. After returning to the US, Ellen decided that she wanted to create an event planning company that went the extra mile, to build it around what she felt was missing from the majority of events she was involved with, namely “Sustainability.“

At Greater Good Events we are committed to helping each event reach its fullest potential while fostering a sense of service in the community. This starts by sourcing sustainable products wherever possible and working with local vendors with a commitment to greener practices. We have worked hard to cultivate partnerships with food and flower rescue agencies to ensure after an event ends, everything possible is reused and repurposed for the greater good. In addition, every year, we donate a portion of our annual profits to organizations helping those facing food insecurity in the New York Metro Area. We are deeply committed to this mission as part of our work.

For Ellen, this idea of event waste reduction became particularly acute after working on a large annual fundraising event in her hometown of Portland, Oregon. Each year, tens of thousands of dollars of unused food would be thrown out after the event. It was this experience, which led Ellen to work closely with local homeless shelters and soup kitchens to ensure excess food from events large and small, would be donated to those in need. Social justice and responsibility are at the core of Greater Good Events and are part of the soul that motivates the team.

Ellen not only has the passion, but she also has the hands on experience necessary for successful events. Her skills include planning and execution of events ranging from small intimate VIP gatherings to large-scale concerts and festivals. Throughout her career, Ellen has built and maintained relationships with world renowned vendors, ranging from venues and caterers to production and security companies that will make your event a success.
